Astral-Light Alpacas, LLC was created in 2002 by owner Naomi E. Flam. Like many alpaca breeders, she was looking for an alternative lifestyle. While traveling throughout the USA in her career as a professional event planner, Naomi dreamed of simplifying her life, settling down and raising lifestock - ideally lifestock that produced high-quality fleece which could be made into luxurious fiber products. She considered raising goats for their cashmere fiber, but when her husband saw a TV ad on the alpaca, he suggested that she consider this beautiful animal instead. After months of researching this ancient treasure of the Andes, in January, 2002 she purchased four female alpacas. After several more purchases and a multitude of crias, the Astral-Light alpaca herd now numbers over 20 Huacaya and Suri alpacas. Astral-Light Alpacas believes in developing a breeding program of Huacaya and Suri alpacas that produces superior fiber that reflects incredible fineness and luster. Naomi is a strong advocate of the alpaca fiber industry and promotes the merits to the general public. She is a member of the AOBA Raw Fiber and Fiber Products Committee and a past member of the AOBA Marketing Committee. Affiliations include Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association (AOBA), Alpaca Registry, Inc (ARI), American Fiber Cooperative of North America (AFCNA), California Alpaca Association (Calpaca) and the Alpaca Breeders of Southern California (SoCalpaca).
