“2008 Small Ruminant Practitioner of the Year”
Co-author of “Llama & Alpaca Neonatal Care” book
Since 2005, this two-day course has helped alpaca breeders determine what role YOU play in the birthing and cria care process. There is a wet lab using real crias (deceased) where you will practice delivery exercises and instruction on how to correct birthing malpresentations. Topics include, but are not limited to the following:
* Learn reproductive physiology
* Pregnancy diagnosis
* Preparation for birthing
* What is normal birthing?
* Difficult births – Are you dealing with a dystocia?
* Common dystocias & how to correct them.
* Uterine torsion diagnosis and correction
* Post-partum care of the dam & cria
* How to care for “at risk” crias
* IgG plates / Passive transfers
Cost: $150 per person; $250 for two people from same farm/ranch. Fee includes all supplies, lunch, and handouts.

Biography
Patrick Long, DVM resides in Corvallis, OR. Llamas and alpacas have comprised more than half of his vet practice. In 2008, he was honored with the “Dr. Donald E. Bailey Small Ruminant Practitioner of the Year” award presented annually by the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners. The award recognizes a member that has set a high standard as a small ruminant practitioner and demonstrated exemplary service in organized veterinary medicine, particularly small ruminant medicine. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors of the Alpaca Research Foundation.
